While destruction renovation of the White House may be symbolic, the wholesale assault on our country is anything but. Even in the best of times, America has had countless areas in need of improvement, rethinking, and reconstruction. But right now, our most urgent task is survival—of both the nation itself and the communities within it, particularly those most vulnerable.

It’s only been ten months since Trump and his inner circle of loyalists seized power and the attacks against our country, our environment, and our most at-risk populations have been relentless. Each day brings a new travesty. Some nights I wake up, check my phone, and find myself asking, What on earth happened since I fell asleep?

Rumors continue to circulate that Trump intends to remain in the White House after his term ends. For years, many of us have rolled our eyes at such talk, trusting that the Constitution still carries weight. Yet the threats persist. The latest comes from the convicted felon Steve Bannon who now claims that Trump faced longer odds of taking the White House in 2016 and 2024 than he will in 2028.
