In a historic first, the committee that chooses who to bestow the Nobel Peace Prize on appears to be the root cause of more war, strife and conflict around the globe.
Donald Trump laid blame for his actions directly on Norway and the Nobel Committee, telling them that by deciding against honoring him with the Nobel Peace Prize, he “no longer feel(s) an obligation to think about Peace”.
As an example of his interest in world peace, he put forward the debunked myth that he has ended eight wars in his first year in office. Of course, the conflict that he repeatedly promised to resolve in 24 hours continues to rage on without end.
Just last week, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, the person who actually won the prize, gifted up her medal to Trump in the failed hope of getting on his good side. That gesture apparently wasn’t enough for her or for the cause of world peace.
In advance of this gesture, the Nobel Committee had to remind Trump, Machado and the rest of the world that Nobel Prizes are not transferrable.

Not long ago, Secretary of State Marco Rubio asked us to ignore our own eyes and ears and accept that Donald Trump is a man of peace by renaming the Institute of Peace to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace. This, despite:
- the airstrikes strikes (and possible war crimes) against “drug boats” in the Caribbean
- the invasion of Venezuela to seize its oil under the false pretense of the drug war
- Immigration and Customers Enforcement (ICE) agents he has deployed nationwide to terrorize immigrant communities in Blue States
- dismissing the murder of unarmed protestor Renee Good during ICE actions
- attacking state sovereignty by deploying the National Guard to cities against the will of the Governors, Mayors and their citizens
Also ignore Trumps threats against Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, and NATO itself by way of his demand for U.S ownership of Greenland. Even if all of this is true (which it is), the reason for all of this violence rests on the desks of the leader of Norway and the Nobel Peace Prize committee.
Right?
The next ten months of waiting for the mid-term elections are bound to feel like an eternity. Supposing that the Republicans lose the House and the Senate, the two months after that will feel even longer. With Trump turning the world upside down on weekly basis, it’s impossible to know what will remain of the current world order, international alliances, the federal government or even the rule of law by the time a co-equal branch of government expresses the will to reign him in.
Good Night and Good Luck to us all.
